Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has shared a candid perspective on modern parenting, expressing his firm stance against corporal punishment.

During an appearance on the Honest Brunch podcast hosted by Nedu Wazobia, Bovi recounted his personal experiences with raising his son and how he navigated moments of frustration without resorting to physical discipline.

“I don’t support parents beating their children,” he stated, emphasizing a more empathetic approach to parenting.

Reflecting on his journey with his son, Chuchu, Bovi explained how his son used to channel his emotions into destructive actions, often breaking household items.

“My son used to break televisions for the fun of it. If he was upset, he’d throw stuff and smash the TV. He’s broken three televisions! Thank God for capacity—if I couldn’t afford to replace them, maybe my approach would’ve been different.”

Despite the challenges, Bovi chose to address the behaviour with patience rather than punishment.

He explained that as his son matured, he began to understand the consequences of his actions independently. “It got to the stage where I saw the remorse. He stopped breaking things, not because I hit him, but because he understood the consequences on his own.”
