Ghanaian musician, AratheJay, has recounted the difficulties he went through in the early stage of his journey career.

In an interview with GhanaWeb‘s Elsie Lamar on July 10, 2025, AratheJay, noted that his story is not different from most musicians in the country.

He explained that he also had a rough start at the early stage of his career to the point where his parent had to caution his contacts from talking to him.

“There was a time they had to send a message to everyone on my contact list that no one should call me,” he said.

AratheJay added that, in some instances, he slept outside in the cold after returning from events late at dawn.

“There are some things you need to sacrifice. If you have to go and come late to sleep outside like I did. You sleep outside and no one is coming to open the door for you…or you will go to your friend and probably he is not even there but your people at home will think you are with your friends having a good time,” he stated.

AratheJay however noted that even though he went through difficulties before his breakthrough, he considers it as a sacrifice he paid for.

“There were so many issues but I personally didn’t see it as an issue. I saw it as your love but it comes out as fear…Maybe they saw it as an issue but I don’t want you to see it as an issue.

“I want you to take it as this is the price you have to pay for what you believe as a purpose. Everything is sacrificed for. You choose what you want to sacrifice,” he added.
