Dr Tony Aidoo is a veteran politician
A stalwart of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Tony Aidoo, has said he wants to live to see the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
He indicated that he would be highly delighted if the team thrived at the tournament with impressive performances to raise Ghana’s flag high and make the African continent proud as well.
The veteran politician noted that as a staunch football fan, the national team’s success would make him feel fulfilled.
“All I want is to live long enough to see the Black Stars qualify for the World Cup and see them play well during the World Cup,” he said during an interview with Radio Gold on September 18, 2025.

Dr Aidoo recounted his stay in London, where he could watch matches from his balcony overlooking West Ham’s former home, Upton Park, officially known as Boleyn Ground.
He stated that continuously monitoring the club’s activities made him develop a special bond for London clubs like West Ham, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur, but his allegiance lies with Arsenal.
“My house in London used to share a wall with West Ham’s Upton Park. So, sometimes I would stand on the balcony, in the back room of my house, and I could see the field until they increased the height of the wall.”
“I was supporting West Ham. In fact, I supported all London clubs – Tottenham, West Ham, Arsenal, Chelsea. But when any of them played Arsenal, I wanted Arsenal to win. Apart from that, whenever any team came to London to play, I wanted the London club to win,” he added.
The Black Stars are in a stronger position to qualify for the FIFA World Cup after amassing 19 points in Group I, three points clear of second-placed Madagascar.
