Artiste manager and entertainment pundit, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod, has shed light on the circumstances surrounding Shatta Wale‘s recent public apology stemming from their defamation case.

It could be recalled that in November 2022, Shatta Wale accused Bullgod of involvement in the 2014 murder of Fennec Okyere, former manager of rapper Kwaw Kese.

These allegations prompted Bullgod to file a defamation lawsuit, seeking GH¢1 million in damages.

Fast forward to April 2025, Shatta Wale, in an open letter, publicly apologised for his comments and retracted his claims.

Speaking on the May 3, 2025, edition of United Showbiz, Bulldog stated that the case took an emotional toll on his family, especially his wife and children, as the murder remains unsolved.

“This is something that I have gone through a lot over. Right now, it is a cold case. Nobody has been arrested over it. It’s unresolved. So, for you to come and say that, it’s sad. My family went through a lot, especially my wife and kids. It wasn’t easy. So, I had to take him on to prove that what he said was false,” he said.

Bullgod explained that he had sued Shatta Wale in an effort to clear his name from the allegations but after pleas from various stakeholders, he agreed to an out-of-court settlement in June 2023, which required Shatta Wale to issue a formal apology and cover legal fees amounting to GH¢100,000.

“My intention was not to punish anybody; I just wanted to clear my name. So, when everyone was pleading with me to forgive him and drop the matter, I talked with my wife, and she left the final decision to me.

“So, I agreed to drop the case, and we went to court to remove the case. That was in 2023. I had initially sued him for GH¢1 million, but we agreed for him to render an apology and pay my legal fees. We told the court that, and it was granted provided that all ends were met,” he shared.

However, according to Bullgod, Shatta Wale refused to fufil his end of the bargain until Bullgod’s new lawyers followed up on the case.

“Typical of him, he didn’t fulfil his end of the bargain. We left it at that. It was when my new lawyer went through my cases that he decided to follow up on the judgement.

“So, my lawyers went back to court to enforce the judgement. Then he saw that it wouldn’t go well for him. He got in touch with my lawyers to have a sit-down. I was like, there’s nothing to talk about; he knows what to do. So, the apology came. And that’s okay for me,” he said.

While the apology was eventually made, Bullgod stated that the payment of legal fees remains outstanding.

“All that is left is that he settles my lawyers. The legal fees are about GH¢100,000,” he added.

Bullgod clarified that his primary intention was not to punish Shatta Wale but to clear his name and restore his reputation.

He expressed hope that the matter would be fully resolved soon, allowing both parties to move forward.
