An indigene of Osu, Aku Allotey, is appealing to authorities to intervene after her late father’s remains were exhumed at the Osu Cemetery in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Friday, February 6, 2026, she stated that she cannot locate her father’s grave.

“My concern here is the government, they have to take action about the cemetery, they have to do something about the cemetery. There was a time I came here and I witnessed a grave being exhumed; the same thing has happened to my father.

“He was buried here and I cannot find his grave. So, we are pleading with the government and the chiefs to intervene”, the aggrieved woman stated.

The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly has imposed a two-month suspension of all burials at the Osu Cemetery following reports of grave desecration and illegal burial practices.

This decision was announced by the Municipal Chief Executive, Alfred Allotey Gaisie at a press briefing on Thursday, February 6, 2026, is to allow for a comprehensive assessment and restructuring of the cemetery’s management.

The moratorium is intended to address longstanding challenges and ensure the proper planning and record-keeping of the cemetery. The Assembly has assured the public that further updates will be provided after the completion of the assessment and restructuring process.
