Ghanaian singer and songwriter Bismark Enyan popularly known as Abochi has opened up about the true inspiration behind his hit song `Bestie’, revealing that the song was inspired by real-life experience.
Speaking in a cooking show with Empress Gifty on October 5, 2025, Abochi shared that the inspiration behind the emotional song came from his personal encounter with a close female friend he had developed feelings for.
“I had a close female friend who I used to talk to almost all the time. As you’re close to the opposite sex, you turn to develop feelings because you get used to each other. But then, I didn’t know how to tell her so I decided to put it into music” he said.
The `Bestie’ hitmaker disclosed that his fear of rejection and damaging their strong friendship held him back from confessing his feelings directly.
“With this kind of friendship, sometimes when you profess your love to her and she doesn’t feel the same way, it will jeopardise the friendship which was my fear. I felt it would be better to write a music about us but I didn’t expect the song to go viral that fast” he stated.
However, what started as a romantic relationship ended on mutual terms after both realised they were better off as friends.
“She listened to the song and confronted me. She asked me if she was reason for dropping the song and at that point, I had no choice than to confess to her that I had feeling for her. She was actually blushing and we dated for some time. After some time, I realised we were better as friends” he shared.
He added, “Things that we would have tolerated in friendship, we couldn’t tolerate them anymore. Everything changed and we quarrelled a lot. So we both agreed to quit and go back to friendship but unfortunately, the friendship didn’t also work so we had to go our separate ways.”
