Ghanaian rapper M.anifest has debunked rumours that his rap battle with Sarkodie was planned.

He clarified that the ‘rivalry’ between them was purely driven by competition to prove who is the best rapper in the country, and not personal.

“I’ve said this to people several times, and they disbelieve it, but Sarkodie and I can attest to the fact that it wasn’t planned. It was in a spirit of competition… Being a competitive person and being triggered by the mention of my name and slogan, I decided to show him that I was also good. But it was nothing personal,” M.anifest explained.

He added that their ‘rap battle’ was good for the industry, as it showcased their talents and brought attention to the rap scene.

“The beef between us was good for the game because both competitors benefited. People were more interested in who the best rapper was than who won artist of the year. That year, I don’t think anyone cared about the artist of the year. All they cared about was the best rapper,” he said.

Reflecting on the battle, M.anifest expressed that he has no regrets about it.

“Absolutely none. There were people who made me a big part of their life because of those moments. It was even bigger than elections for them. They were in universities and colleges, probably suffering through exams, and these moments allowed them to have in-depth conversations about arts with their friends. I don’t remember anybody telling me they got slapped out of it,” he added.
