The Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwah, who correctly predicted the outcome of the parliamentary by-election in Akwatia, has highlighted the reasons why the opposition lost the seat.

In a post shared on Facebook, Mussa Dankwah said that exit poll data show that more NPP supporters voted in the by-election, but the party still lost.

This, he asserted, was a positive the party can take from the election because its members came out in their numbers to vote.

NDC’s Baidoo will win Akwatia by-election by at least 53% – Mussa Dankwah predicts

“The good news for NPP from yesterday’s by-election in Akwatia is that the party did not suffer from voter apathy. Lessons here: do not take the vote you get in an election to be your party supporters. It is always a coalition of voters,” he wrote on September 3, 2025.

He further stated that a huge chunk of NPP supporters who voted for the party in the 2024 main election voted against their candidate this time around.

“The exit poll shows that of the votes Kumi won the 2024 election with, 83% were NPP voters, 13% were NDC, 3% were floating voters, 1% were other political party supporters, and 1% did not disclose their party affiliations. The NPP defeat yesterday was caused largely by NDC voters who voted for Ernest Kumi in the 2024 election but returned home to vote for Baidoo. Yiadom Boakye’s 2024 defeat was caused by NDC voters and, therefore, a wise decision not to re-elect him for the by-election,” he said.

Mussa Dankwah further explained that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the by-election because Akwatia voters believe they are the best bet for the constituency’s development.

NDC’s Bernard Baidoo wins Akwatia by-election

“While 40% of NPP voters cited development as a key issue, 61% of NDC voters cited development and 61% of floating voters also cited development projects as their key issue of concern. Overall, 50% of respondents said development was their key priority. However, some NPP voters who turned up yesterday abandoned Solomon Asumadu and voted for development and Baidoo, according to the exit polls,” his post concluded.
