Ghanaian Afrobeats star, Joel Ofori Bonsu, popularly known as Olivetheboy, has revealed that the majority of his music streams come from Nigeria, despite being based in Ghana.

In a recent interview with entrepreneur and social media influencer Ama Burland, the artiste shared: “Most of my support comes from Nigeria. But Ghana always has my back, and I’m grateful for that.”

Olivetheboy further opened up on his unexpected journey into music.

He said becoming an artiste wasn’t part of his original plan, adding that he once dreamed of becoming a doctor.

“I never really wanted to be an artiste. I wanted to be a doctor, but life took its own course,” he said.

Despite diverging from his childhood ambitions, Olivetheboy said he has no regrets.

He emphasised his contentment with pursuing a career he is passionate about, on his own terms.

“I’m okay where I am. I’m doing what I’m passionate about at my own pace, and it brings me money.”

Olivetheboy is part of a new wave of Ghanaian artistes gaining cross-border recognition, especially in Nigeria.
