Despite growing up in a Christian home, Ghanaian socialite Nana Tornado has shared his reasons for adopting a different belief system from what he was taught during childhood.

In a discussion on the Rants, Bants, and Confessions podcast on March 27, 2025, Nana Tornado noted that Christianity did not help him financially or spiritually.

He explained that many Christians in the country have become complacent and lazy due to the teachings they receive from certain pastors.

“I became a free thinker five years ago. I used to be a Christian who believed that God would do everything for me. Growing up, my father taught me that God would take care of everything… Almost 90 percent of Ghanaians need jobs, yet they are in church, hoping that God will provide for them, even though they haven’t even submitted an application letter.

“Everything in this world is 99 percent effort; if prayer works, it accounts for only 1 percent. There is no miracle anywhere, you have to wake up and work for it. I started making money when I became a free thinker,” he said.

Nana Tornado further emphasised that Christians should stop relying on religious leaders for their prosperity.

He argued that since God has given people the ability to think, they should make good use of it rather than depending on religion.

“Since becoming a free thinker, there is nothing I have planned to do that I haven’t achieved. If there is a God who has given us the ability to think, what else do I need from Him? Therefore, let us remove God and Satan from every equation and think as rational human beings,” he added.
