AS Monaco’s Champions League preparations took an unexpected and chaotic twist after the team was forced to abandon their flight to Belgium due to a technical failure that left players in frightening conditions.

The French side had been scheduled to travel from Nice to Bruges on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, ahead of their opening Champions League clash with Club Brugge.

But just before takeoff, disaster struck: the plane’s air conditioning system malfunctioned, turning the cabin into what players later described as a sauna.

Videos posted on social media by Monaco defender Jordan Teze captured the unsettling scene, with sweat-drenched teammates fanning themselves desperately in the suffocating heat.

Unable to cope with the unbearable conditions, many players stripped down before the squad was ordered to disembark for safety reasons.

Standing on the tarmac at Nice airport, the team looked stunned as they came to terms with the ordeal.

Monaco quickly canceled the flight, announcing they would instead travel on Thursday, September 18, 2025, to ensure the safety of everyone on board.

Coach Adi Hutter, forced to conduct his pre-match press conference back at the training ground, admitted he had never experienced anything like it.

“For technical reasons, it was impossible to travel, as everyone’s safety was not guaranteed. It was special and not so comfortable, but we are professionals, and we prepare as normal,” he said.

The bizarre incident has left Monaco’s buildup in disarray, but their focus now turns to regrouping in time for Thursday night’s European test in Bruges against Club Brugge.
