A drug-fuelled motorbike thief was hit with ‘instant karma’ after he flew off the hot motor during a high-speed police chase.

Ciaran Parker, 20, was racing at an incredible speed down the high street in Pelton, County Durham, on a stolen Kawasaki 300 motorbike.

A police officer motioned for Parker, who was not wearing a helmet, to pull over at around 10.30am on April 2 last year but the criminal only sped up.

Dashcam footage shows the then 19-year-old reaching a massive 60mph in a 30mph zone as he careered towards South Pelaw.

He hurtled across junctions and veered on to the wrong side of the road in a frantic bid to outrun police.

Parker sped down Chester-le-Street town centre, barely missing a bus before he lost control and was flung off the bike at around 40mph.

Footage shows a young mum with a pushchair narrowly leaping out of the way, yanking her children back as Parker and the wrecked bike skid towards them.

A young boy standing on the pavement was injured by a flying piece of debris from the vehicle.

A collation of CCTV shows onlookers watching in horror from various angles as the crash unfolds.

Bodycam footage caught the moment officers attended Parker who was sobbing and shouting: ‘I need some painkillers!’

Despite his pain, he quickly says: ‘Right, I know exactly what you’re gonna say but I’ve just bought the f***ing bike man!’

One officer replies: ‘Ciaran, at the minute I couldn’t care less about that. My main concern is whatever injuries you’ve got.’

Parker suffered an open leg break on his right leg and the back of his head was soaked in blood.

One medic explained to Parker that he was wrapping a tourniquet around his fractured limb, warning him it might feel ‘tight’.

As paramedics tried to help him, he screamed: ‘I’m in a bad way here. My ankle! My leg’s knacking!’

When asked by officers if he had consumed any intoxicants, Parker replied: ‘No man! Get off my f***ing head!’

When asked by officers if he had consumed any intoxicants, Parker denied that had taken any drugs (Pictured: Parker)

Then, a friend of Parker’s arrived and began telling him to ‘pack it in’.

After making sure he was alright, she told him: ‘Well, you knew what was going to happen. I’ve told you to pack the f*** in.’

Parker replied: ‘I’ve snapped my leg and everything.’

He then boasted: ‘I would’ve smoked the copper bike.’

The friend responded: ‘You’re not big and you’re not clever. Look at the state of you. You’ve hit that poor kid.’

Parker replied: ‘I’ve hit the kid?’

A drug test also found Parker had cocaine and cannabis in his system at the time of the crash.

Parker, of Pelton, pleaded guilty at Durham Crown Court and was detained for 14 months in a Young Offender Institution (Pictured: The scene of the crash)

He was charged with a string of offences, among them burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and drug driving.

Parker, of Pelton, pleaded guilty at Durham Crown Court and was detained for 14 months in a Young Offender Institution.

The video collated by Durham Constabulary features audio from an interview with Parker after the crash.

Detective Constable Michelle Leonard, of Durham Constabulary’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, refers to Parker’s comment that he ‘just bought’ the motorbike.

‘Is there anything you wish to add, clarify or change about this statement?’ she asks him.

    ‘No comment,’ Parker replies.

He cringes at footage of the crash shown to him by police, becoming audibly shocked and upset, saying: ‘I don’t even want to watch that.’

He adds: ‘I bought that bike, you know?

‘Aw listen – no comment. You’re wasting my time.’

Speaking after the crash, DC Leonard said: ‘This was an incredibly dangerous piece of riding from Parker.

‘He rode recklessly at very high speeds through residential areas, often on the wrong side of the road, before crashing the bike in the middle of a busy town centre.

‘It is a miracle nobody was seriously injured or, worse, killed.’

DC Leonard said the force welcomed the 14-month sentence handed to the dangerous driver.

‘I hope it sends a clear message that driving dangerously, without a licence, and under the influence of drugs, can have catastrophic consequences and that those who choose to do it will be brought to justice.’
