This is the moment a passenger had a meltdown in an airport after learning her flight had been cancelled, swearing at staff before being detained by police.

The irate female passenger, who has not been identified, can be seen in a white T-shirt and yellow bottoms cursing at staff for more than a minute in a video clip.

She was among many left stranded after a Norse Atlantic Airways flight from Paris to New York was abruptly axed just before midnight on July 3.

Fellow passenger Erianne Freign, 27, said the customer was frustrated that the airline would not provide hotel accommodation for her family.

Video showed the woman screaming at an airline employee, calling her a ‘bi**h’ before being escorted behind the desk by security.

She then threw the jumper around her waist to the floor and clenched her fists. The crowd gathering around the desk erupted with noise, startled.

Erianne, a model from Paris, France, said: ‘It was quite an intense reaction.’

She explained that the woman had said she was diabetic and needed her medication, and was trying to find accommodation for her and her two children.

‘You can tell she was in a panic, but I don’t think she should have used such strong language. Especially because the people on the desk aren’t responsible.’

Passengers on flight N0301 from Paris to New York were notified via email that their flight had been cancelled due to technical issues just before midnight.

Flight data from FlightAware shows a Norse Atlantic Airways 301 flight from Charles de Gaulle airport to John F Kennedy International was cancelled on Thursday, July 3.

The aircraft was listed as a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

The next flight from Paris to New York, also on a B789, was also cancelled on July 4, data shows.

A third, on July 5, was delayed more than two hours to 10:30pm, flightradar24 data shows.

Upon receiving the email, many rushed to the desk to rebook or ask about accommodations.

Erianne, who was among those trying to rebook, said passengers were told they’d have to cancel their original booking themselves and find new flights and accommodation on their own.

‘I understand why she would be upset because the airline was being so unhelpful,’ she said.

‘She just wanted some accommodation for her and her two kids because they had cancelled the flight in the middle of the night.’

Erianne eventually rebooked her flight with a different airline, paying double the price of her original ticket.

Erianne said: ‘I was able to rebook on a different flight, but it cost me £952 ($1,285) because it was so last minute.

‘I still haven’t gotten a refund from my original flight but I am emailing with them.

‘I’ve just been really disappointed with how it was handled.’

Erianne said that passengers, already at the airport, asked for solutions to rebook and sleep somewhere tonight.

She said they were told by staff they had to cancel their flights themselves and then rebook another ticket from another airline.

‘The prices were ridiculous,’ she said.

‘After that, the people that couldn’t afford another flight were trying to find a hotel to sleep in.

‘But because this happened during the night, that’s not the easiest thing to do.

‘Some of them slept at the airport with their kids, including this woman.’

MailOnline approached Norse Atlantic Airways for comment.
