Katy Perry delivered a devastating parting shot to ex-husband Russell Brand during a concert in the UK last July, saying he ‘should be in jail.’
The Firework singer made the extraordinary remark during her appearance at the Blenheim Palace Festival in Oxfordshire when she took part in a question-and-answer session with her fans.
When one asked the singer to act out her reaction to ‘seeing her ex’, Perry shot back: ‘I hope my ex isn’t here. He should be in jail.’
The remark has taken on a far darker significance following Brand’s convictions for rape and sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court last week.
Perry, 42, who is now in a relationship with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, has rarely spoken about her 14-month marriage to Brand.
The couple married in a Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan, India in October 2010 during a six-day celebration, with guests including Sean Combs, Jonathan Ross and David Walliams.

Brand filed for divorce on December 30, 2011. He infamously dumped Ms Perry by text moments before she was due to go on stage.
She later said that Brand was jealous of her success. Ms Perry went on to have a decade-long relationship with Orlando Bloom, 49, splitting in June 2025.
She shares a daughter, Daisy Dove, with the Pirates Of The Caribbean star.
Her relationship with Trudeau, 54, began the following month when their paths crossed when she was on tour. He separated from wife Sophie Gregoire in 2023.
Photographs of Trudeau and Ms Perry kissing on a yacht surfaced in October 2025.
She described him as ‘the love of my life’ in interviews surrounding her concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris.
