Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a new monthly salary of N80,000 for 67 security guards working at LAUTECH hospital.

This came following an emotional appeal from one of the security guards during a public event at LAUTECH Hospital.

The guard, who broke down in tears while addressing the governor, disclosed that despite years of service, he and his colleagues were earning only N18,800 per month.

He described their struggle and appealed to the governor for urgent intervention.

“On the 1st of June, 2021, we raised placards, asking you to help us. We’ve been here before, Otunba Alao Akala, and before the work of this place is completed. We are not staff but indigenes of Oyo State. Please help us, we are suffering. I have a family and three children; my age is fast running out. Please help us, your excellency,” The security guard said, breaking down in tears.

In response, Governor Makinde inquired about their remuneration, and a hospital representative confirmed that the security personnel were not directly employed by the hospital but by an outsourcing company, which was being paid N27,000 per guard, while the guards received only N18,800.

Reacting to the revelation, Governor Makinde immediately announced that all 67 security workers would be absorbed as ad-hoc staff under the state government and placed on a monthly salary of N80,000, effective from October 1, 2025.

“I can solve the problem right away by saying that all 67 should be converted directly to ad-hoc workers and you will get N80,000 every month from the first of October.” Seyi Makinde
