The family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa ‘Mohbad‘ Aloba has renewed its call for a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, while instructing his widow, Wunmi, to stop using the Aloba surname until a court-ordered DNA test confirms her son’s paternity.

In a statement jointly signed by family head Omolayo Aloba and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing a transparent, independent, and comprehensive investigation into the singer’s death.

The statement also announced Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq. as the family’s sole legal representative for all estate and DNA-related matters, while Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN will continue to represent them before investigative authorities.

Additionally, three administrators Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba were appointed to manage Mohbad’s assets.

One administrative position, the family noted, will be reserved for Wunmi if the DNA test confirms that her son, Liam, is Mohbad’s biological child.

The family directed Wunmi to cease using the surname Aloba in public or private records until lawful confirmation of paternity is obtained, adding that no statutory or customary marriage existed between Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo.

According to the statement, if the DNA result establishes that Liam is indeed Mohbad’s son, both Wunmi and the child will be formally recognized in the ongoing estate administration process.

Mohbad, who died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, has yet to be buried more than a year later as his family continues to demand justice and clarity over the circumstances of his untimely passing.
