Veteran sports journalist Fiifi Banson has made a bold claim, stating that Ghanaian football legend Mohammed Polo was more skillful on the pitch than the iconic Lionel Messi. His statement has sparked intense debate among football fans.

Renowned as the “Dribbling Magician,” Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed, popularly known as Mohammed Polo, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most technically gifted footballers.

A key member of Ghana’s victorious 1978 African Cup of Nations squad, Polo made his mark as a left winger for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League.

His talent earned him numerous individual and team accolades, including the 1978 AFCON title and the 1975 Ghanaian Footballer of the Year award.

These achievements are why Banson believes Polo was more skilful than Lionel Messi, the record Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup champion.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Banson argued that despite Messi’s global recognition, he does not surpass Polo in terms of raw skill.

“When it comes to skill, Mohammed Polo was better than Lionel Messi,” Banson said.
