Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus is set to work under a new manager following West Ham’s announcement of Julen Lopetegui’s sacking after just seven months in charge.

The Spaniard had been preparing the team for their FA Cup third-round tie against Aston Villa on January 10. However, the club’s board decided to end his tenure, bringing his time at the club to a close.

Lopetegui was relieved of his duties after a meeting with club chairman David Sullivan on Monday. This decision follows West Ham’s poor form, which has left them in 14th place in the Premier League table, compounded by a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.

For Kudus, this marks the second managerial change he has experienced since joining West Ham in 2023. With negotiations ongoing with ex Chelsea boss Graham Potter to become the Hammers’ new boss, Potter would become Kudus’ third coach at the club in just two seasons.

Under David Moyes, Kudus enjoyed a stellar debut season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign. However, he has struggled to replicate that form during the 2024/25 season under Lopetegui, managing only three goals and three assists in 15 Premier League appearances.

Lopetegui’s tenure saw West Ham play 20 Premier League matches, of which they won six, drew five, and lost nine. He leaves the Hammers in 14th place with 23 points in the league standings.
