Gabriel Karley, brother of the late Benedicta Karley one of the six young ladies who died during the El-Wak Stadium stampede in Accra has accused some officers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) of refusing to assist his sister when she collapsed during the incident.

In an interview with GhanaWeb TV on November 14, 2025 Gabriel, who identified himself as the elder brother of the deceased, said he accompanied his sister throughout the process.

He explained that when Benedicta collapsed, he rushed to seek assistance from several military officer’s present at the scene, pleading with them to help carry her so he could get a taxi to take her to the hospital.

“My younger sister had passed out. I went to several military personnel, begging on my knees, that since they had a car, they should help me take my sister outside so I could get a taxi and take her to the hospital. They told me point blank that they couldn’t,” he recounted.

“As military personnel, you are not there for your selfish gain you are there to serve the country. I begged several times and even called some of the ambulance numbers. They told me they were on their way.

“Some of the recruits came to help me because the military officers did not mind me. One of the ladies among them was a nurse and she kept pressing her chest to revive her before the ambulance came.”

According to Gabriel, his sister suffocated due to the intense heat and pressure from the massive crowd during the stampede.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, disclosed this during a visit to one of the bereaved families at Eyan Maim in the Central Region on Friday, November 14, 2025.
