Ghanaian entrepreneur and energy sector executive Michael Owusu Asiedu has been named African Business Icon at the 14th edition of the 3G Media Awards & Celebrity Bash, held on October 24, 2025, in New York, USA.

The recognition celebrates Mr Asiedu’s exceptional leadership in the downstream petroleum industry, his contribution to business growth and innovation, and his role in promoting sustainable energy practices in Ghana and beyond.

Mr Asiedu currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of IBM Petroleum Limited, a fast-growing oil marketing company based in Accra. He also leads Asitom Company Limited, a logistics and haulage firm that supports petroleum distribution and transportation nationwide.

With over 12 years of experience in Ghana’s oil and gas sector, Mr Asiedu has built a track record of operational excellence, strategic expansion, and effective corporate governance.

His professional journey began at Star Oil Company Limited as a pump technician, followed by leadership roles at Union Oil Company Limited and Seam Oil Company Limited.

Appointed as CEO and Managing Director of IBM Petroleum in April 2019, Mr Asiedu has since driven the company’s growth trajectory through strategic investments, operational efficiency, and customer-focused innovation. Under his stewardship, IBM Petroleum was named the Fastest Growing Oil and Gas Company of the Year at the 2022 Ghana Oil and Gas Awards.

In May 2023, he spearheaded the commissioning of the Sankore Service Station in the Ahafo Region, an initiative aimed at expanding access to quality fuel services in underserved communities.

His leadership philosophy—anchored on integrity, discipline, and results orientation—continues to shape the company’s reputation as one of Ghana’s most dynamic indigenous players in the downstream energy space.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Mr Asiedu is recognized for his commitment to capacity building, youth empowerment, and ethical business practices.

His approach combines technical competence with a forward-looking vision that aligns with global standards in environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Speaking on his recognition, Mr Asiedu expressed appreciation to the organizers of the 3G Media Awards and dedicated the honor to his team, clients, and partners for their continued trust and collaboration.

“This award reaffirms our belief that consistent excellence, teamwork, and integrity yield sustainable results. At IBM Petroleum, we remain focused on innovation, efficiency, and service excellence as we contribute to Ghana’s energy transformation,” he noted.

The 3G Media Awards, organized annually in the United States, acknowledge individuals of African descent who demonstrate excellence in business leadership, innovation, community service, and global impact.

Mr Asiedu’s recognition as African Business Icon underscores his growing influence within Africa’s energy sector and his sustained contribution to advancing indigenous enterprise in Ghana.
