Veteran Kumawood actor Michael Afranie has responded to public concerns surrounding fellow actor Agya Koo’s absence at the recently held Ashanti Festival celebrations.

In an interview, Afranie addressed speculations suggesting that Agya Koo and other prominent Kumawood figures may have been sidelined due to their political affiliations, specifically with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Afranie, there was no deliberate exclusion of anyone from the celebrations. He clarified that the group of Kumawood stars who participated in the festivities were part of a collective known for their performances on television stations like Adom TV.

The group took it upon themselves to represent Kumawood through drama performances as part of the cultural celebration.

“Agya Koo was not sidelined,” Afranie explained. “Even if we did not call him, did you see him at AshantiFest? You don’t need a special invitation if you live in the Ashanti Region and we are organizing such an event. You just look at the program lineup and show up.”

He further stated that the organizers of AshantiFest were inclusive and that no personal issues existed between Agya Koo and any organizing team members. Afranie added that Agya Koo would have been warmly welcomed if he had decided to take part in the celebrations.

However, Afranie also suggested that Agya Koo’s absence might have stemmed from his own conscience due to his well-known support for the ruling NPP.

He hinted that the actor’s political stance may have influenced his decision not to associate with events perceived to be attended or supported by figures with opposing political ideologies.
