Inter Miami booked their place in the 2025 MLS Cup final with a commanding 5-1 victory over New York City FC in the Eastern Conference final on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Chase Stadium.

The win saw Lionel Messi set a new milestone, becoming the player with the most assists in MLS postseason history, while also adding another trophy to his illustrious career. With this triumph, Messi now has 47 career titles, further cementing his status as the most decorated footballer of all time.

Miami started brightly, with Tadeo Allende opening the scoring in the 14th minute. Less than ten minutes later, Allende doubled the lead with a header from a precise long pass delivered by Jordi Alba. The 26-year-old completed his hattrick in the second half, capping a stellar individual performance.

New York City FC reduced the deficit to 2-1 before halftime through Justin Haak, but Miami quickly regained control. Messi provided a record-breaking assist in the 67th minute, setting up Mateo Silvetti for a clinical finish. Alba also shone with his playmaking, delivering a clever heel pass to Telasco Segovia in the 83rd minute to complete the scoring.

Miami dominated statistically, recording six shots on goal to New York’s three, while controlling 51.23 percent of possession. Messi maintained an accurate pass rate of 89.2 percent and contributed two successful crosses, underscoring his continued influence on the pitch.

With the Eastern Conference title secured, Inter Miami now awaits the winner of the Western Conference final between San Diego FC and Vancouver. The MLS Cup final is scheduled for December 6, 2025, offering Messi and his teammates a chance to add yet another chapter to an already historic career.
