Nigerian clergyman and business advocate, Dr Charles Apoki, has stated that men who lack financial stability mostly struggle to earn respect within their marriages, including from their own children.

Speaking on the Konnected Minds podcast, Dr Apoki emphasised that financial provision is central to a man’s role in the family.

He explained that even when a man gives money to his wife for the family’s needs, children often fail to recognise the contribution, believing instead that it comes from their mother.

‘My world revolved around Regina Daniels’ – Ned Nwoko

“Men without money in marriage have no value. Even your children will not respect you, because when you give your wife money, the children think she is the one paying the school fees. She’s the one who goes to the bursar, buys the Christmas clothes, brings food, and so they go to her first before coming to you.

“When they go to her and it goes round and round before reaching you, you give her the money, and she gives it to them,” he said.

Dr Apoki further stressed on the biblical perspective on the matter, citing 1 Timothy 5:8 to underline the importance of a man’s responsibility to provide for his family.

“The Bible says in 1 Timothy 5:8, man must provide for his family. Whoever does not provide for his family is worse than an unbeliever, because he has betrayed the faith,” he added.
