Corinthians striker, Memphis Depay has carved his name into the Dutch football history as the all time leading goal scorer.

Memphis surpassed Robin Van Persie with his 51st international goal during a 3-2 victory in the World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania on September 7, 2025.

The 31-year-old forward opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a clinical finish from Cody Gakpo’s cross to mark his record breaking moment at the S Darius and S Girėnas Stadium in Kaunas.

Depay made his Netherlands debut in 2013 against Turkey and scored his first goal against Australia at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The match against Lithuania saw Depay not only break the record but also add a second goal, a powerful header from a Denzel Dumfries cross to secure the win after Lithuania fought back to level the score at 2-2. This brace took his tally to 52 in the national team.

The Netherlands are top of Group G with 10 points from four games after the win in Kaunas.
