Josh Acheampong is having a breakthrough season with Chelsea and is on course to win his first title with the Blues.

The English-born Ghanaian has been sensational for Chelsea in the UEFA Europa Conference League and earned praise from manager Enzo Maresca for yet another impressive display in a 2-0 win over Legia Warsaw on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

“The one I fell in love with tonight was Josh Acheampong. For me, potentially, he can be a fantastic player for this club and in football in general,” he said after the game.

“Since we started, I’ve been in love with him, but tonight he showed he can be a very good player for this club. A good player shows you they can play in different positions,” Maresca added.

Born to Ghanaian parents, Acheampong joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of eight and has risen through the ranks to the first team.

He is a defender who plays as a right-back, possessing exceptional defensive and attacking qualities. He fits the modern game with a good passing range, is technically adept, and demonstrates strong defensive awareness.

He was promoted to the senior team in December 2024 after signing a long-term contract that runs until 2029.

Acheampong, 18, was born in the London Borough of Waltham Forest on May 5, 2006. He is eligible to represent Ghana, England, and Ireland.

He currently holds English and Irish citizenship but has yet to secure Ghanaian citizenship. His ties to Ireland remain unclear.

Josh Acheampong has made nine appearances for Chelsea this season and has been the breakout star of the team. He has featured in four Premier League games, four Conference League matches, and one English Football League Cup game.
