Frederick Acheampong Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council member

Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council member, Frederick Acheampong, has refuted claims that the media were barred from attending the 31st Ordinary Congress.

Reports emerged on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, that journalists were denied entry to the E T Mensah Hall in Prampram, with a viral video showing media personnel waiting outside as the Congress proceeded.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Acheampong insisted that the decision was not intentional. He explained that the media were not being blocked but that the arrangement followed standard protocols outlined by CAF and FIFA, noting that the hall’s capacity was already full.

“The media were not denied access, but rather, we felt that allowing them to be at the auditorium would not be the best thing since the Hall is not spacious enough,” he said.

“The media will come there with the cameras and other people to help them, so we decided that let them stay away from the Hall, but we will have a presser for them after the Congress, which we did.

“This is done at CAF and FIFA, so I don’t see any wrong, and besides, the auditorium was full,” he added.

He added that such practices are consistent with procedures at CAF and FIFA events and stressed that there was no wrongdoing.

The Congress also witnessed a major policy change, approving an extension of the GFA presidential term from two to three terms.
