Media personality, Raye has strongly criticised what she described as a ‘broken system’ that protects powerful politicians accused of abusing their wives, instead of ensuring justice for the victims.

According to her, this should not be happening or allowed to happen in a sane country.

“In a sane country, a senator accused of raping his wife, marrying her at 17, and drugging her would be investigated, arrested, and suspended from office, if guilty. The victim would get protection and justice. But in a lawless one? He’ll deny it, issue a statement, and blame her!” She wrote.

Her statement comes amid ongoing tension surrounding Senator Ned Nwoko and his wife, Regina Daniels, following allegations and public commentary from members of the Nwoko family.

While Raye did not directly name anyone in her post, many social media users have linked her remarks to the recent controversy between the senator and Regina Daniels’ relatives.

The media personality’s comments have sparked reactions online, with supporters praising her for speaking up against the culture of impunity and others calling for due process in handling allegations against public officials.

Below are some of the reactions;

“No. In a sane country, he wouldn’t even dare near a 17-year-old in the first place, let alone marrying her.”

“Since the first time he said his wife used drugs, he should have been picked cos he has implicated himself by not reporting, now Regina has accepted she uses it, and the senator supported her. What other evidence does the count want?”

“The victim is his wife. Consensual rape is unknown to the law in Africa. This is not the UK”
