Hundreds of people came during a candlelight memorial to remember Maame and Justine, the two 12-year-old girls who died tragically in an accident caused by Bishop Salifu Amoako’s son, Elrad Salifu Amoako. Among the attendees were well-known Ghanaian entertainers Nana Ama McBrown and John Dumelo.

On October 18, 2024, a vigil was organized at the place of the accident in East Legon. Cornerstone Academy students, relatives, friends, and well-wishers attended the poignant event. Videos that McBrown and Dumelo posted to their social media accounts showed moments of intense grief as mourners placed flowers at the scene and released white balloons into the sky.

Watch the video below to see McBrown, the host of Onua Showtime, at the vigil with Dumelo, the candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat. Dumelo expressed on Instagram how sad the day was and prayed for the peaceful rest of the two young victims’ souls.

There was a strong sense of loss and a demand for justice throughout the vigil. In a moving speech, a relative of the girls who died accused Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife of letting their minor son operate the vehicle that caused the collision. The bereaved family member urged the spirits of the two girls to fight for their cause, saying they would not stop until justice was done.

Ghanaians are terribly affected by this unfortunate event and are calling for responsibility as the families of the victims and the larger community want justice for the lives lost.
