Mbappe was accused of disrespecting Barcelona after Spanish Super Cup final

French superstar, Kylian Mbappé dominated headlines in the media after Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3–2 to clinch the 2025 Spanish Super Cup on Sunday, January 11, 2025.

The Catalan club scored the first goal through Raphinha but the advantage was short-lived as Vinícius Júnior dribbled past a couple of defenders to score the equaliser.

In the dying moments of the first half, the match became even more dramatic. Polish striker Robert Lewandowski scored in the 45+4th minute, but just three minutes later Gonzalo García leveled the score.

In the second half, Raphinha’s shot, which deflected off Raúl Asencio, sealed the 3–2 victory for Barcelona.

Barcelona players after the game honored Real Madrid with a guard of honor as their players received their silver medals.

However, after Madrid received their medals, Mbappé was seen speaking with his teammates in what appeared to be an angry manner, though details of the conversation have not been disclosed.

Reports claimed that the former Monaco forward asked his teammates to leave the pitch and not give a guard of honor to Barcelona.

This action generated controversy and condemnation from football fans, who criticised the player for arrogance and for disregarding a tradition from which he himself has benefited in the past.

Other sources indicate that officials instructed the players to leave the pitch because they were blocking the camera shot.

Neither Real Madrid nor the tournament organisers have issued a statement to clarify the matter.
