The Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, has denied reports of his arrest by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

Speaking to his congregation in a video shared by Asaase Radio on X on Saturday, March 15, 2025, Rev. Kusi Boateng stated that he had not been arrested.

“They are saying I tried to abscond, but who am I running from? I’m a law-abiding citizen, and I have not stolen from anyone, so why would I run?

“And now, people are claiming I’ve been arrested. How can someone who has been arrested be standing here? Maybe they arrested my ghost,” he remarked in Twi.

He went on to express concern over the increasing spread of misinformation, lamenting that dishonesty has become widespread, even among pastors.

“What has the world come to? It is now full of liars. Pastors are lying, and their congregants are doing the same… What kind of world is this?” he said.

Rev. Kusi Boateng clarified that he had only met with security officials regarding the National Cathedral project after returning to Ghana, insisting that he was never arrested while attempting to flee the country.

“I travelled and returned yesterday. When I arrived, I was informed that some people were accusing me of stealing money from the National Cathedral project and claiming I was being sought after.

“I spent only a few minutes where I went to discuss the matter, yet people are saying I was arrested while trying to escape from Ghana. What kind of generation is this?”

    Background:

Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng was reported to have been arrested by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) over an alleged double identity scandal.

According to a report by Citi Newsroom, the embattled pastor was assisting with investigations.

In a 2023 exposé, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu and current Foreign Affairs Minister, alleged that Rev. Kusi Boateng had multiple passports under different identities.

“From unassailable and irreproachable documents in my possession, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, AKA Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, uses multiple passports and multiple identification cards with different names and different dates of birth as his special modus operandi,” Ablakwa claimed in a Facebook post.

He further alleged that JNS Talent Centre Ltd, a company owned by Rev. Kusi Boateng received GH¢2.6 million for the construction of the National Cathedral under the pseudonym Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.

Ablakwa maintained that documents in his possession confirmed that Kwabena Adu Gyamfi and Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng are the same person.

Despite these allegations, Boateng continues to serve on the National Cathedral Board as an Executive Council Member and Director.

On Thursday, July 13, 2024, the Human Rights Court dismissed an application by Rev. Kusi Boateng seeking to restrain MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa from discussing him in connection with the National Cathedral.

Although the specific allegations against him remain unclear, insider sources suggest that authorities are investigating his dual identity.
