Former Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu has urged the club to prioritise personality and mental strength alongside tactical competence as it searches for a substantive head coach.

The Porcupine Warriors are currently without a permanent trainer following the departure of Karim Zito after a string of underwhelming results that intensified pressure on the technical bench.

Assistant coach Nana Yaw Owusu has since assumed interim responsibility while management begins the process of identifying a long-term replacement.

Discussions have centred on appointing an experienced manager capable of restoring confidence and returning the Kumasi-based side to contention for major honours.

Konadu, however, believes pedigree alone should not determine the final decision, insisting the unique demands of managing Ghana’s biggest clubs require more than technical expertise.

“It is about who will fit the bill. Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, you need coaches with character to handle the pressure and your fanbase. It is all about being patient and making sure you go for the right one,” he explained.

Asante Kotoko are currently fourth on the league table with 38 points, seven behind leaders Medeama after 23 games.
