Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has broken his silence on being bypassed for the Accra Hearts of Oak top job, throwing his full support behind the club’s eventual choice, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

Despite extensive negotiations that reportedly saw Konadu reach an ‘agreement in principle’ with the Phobians in mid-2025, the club ultimately pivoted to appoint Dramani on a two-year contract.

Speaking on the decision, Konadu emphasised professional respect over personal disappointment.

Konadu, who was heavily linked to the role following the departure of Aboubakar Ouattara, described Dramani as an elite addition to the club’s technical bench.

“Hearts of Oak made a decision, and we all, as coaches, have to respect it,” Konadu told 3 Sports.

“Hearts is a big team… Didi Dramani is a powerhouse. He is a very good and experienced coach.”

The endorsement comes after a period of intense speculation. Reports indicated that while Konadu was the frontrunner for several weeks, talks collapsed due to friction regarding the club’s plan to transition Ouattara to a Technical Director role, a structure Konadu was reportedly wary of.

Hearts of Oak are currently third in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, trailing leaders Medeama SC by five points.
