Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, has alluded that the lack of consultation in managing the 2024 campaign of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may have contributed to the party’s defeat.

According to Okraku Mantey, the party failed to do due diligence and ended up using a profane song as part of their campaign, which did not augur well for the brand of the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“Do you know that the song we were playing,’sisifia’, is profane? It is profane. This party has people like me, George Quaye, those of us in the music industry. Take me as an example; nobody will consult you on music. Then we take a profane song for someone like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, look at his brand, then we as a party will ask Dr. Bawumia to dance to it…” he stated in an interview on Peace FM.

“Makoma” by award-winning musician King Paluta was a key feature of the NPP’s campaign ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections.

The party’s flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, during his campaign tour, was captured on several platforms dancing to the popular song, which, according to some critics, contains explicit lyrics.

The NPP lost both the presidential and parliamentary elections to the National Democratic Congress.
