Marcus Rashford is reportedly still dreaming of a summer move to Barcelona as he looks to regain form while on loan at Aston Villa.

The Manchester United winger was put on the chopping block at Old Trafford after falling out with Ruben Amorim, who made his exit in January a priority.

Barcelona were among the clubs that expressed a keen interest in the Englishman, but the Blaugrana failed to push for a deal – allowing Villa to swoop in and sign him up on deadline day.

But according to The Sun, Rashford would still jump at the chance to move to Catalonia and is hopeful a deal can be revived in the summer.

Rashford is apparently confident that Barcelona will come back in for him if he can rediscover his goalscoring form at Villa Park – especially now that a transfer price has been established, with Villa agreeing a £40million option to buy in his loan.

Now having an extra incentive to score goals, Villa should see his desire to win Barcelona over as good news for them as they push for Europe this term.

If given the choice of Villa Park and the Nou Camp, it may now be expected that Rashford would snub his current team for his dream move to Spain.

However, Rashford’s desperation to move to the reigning LaLiga champions doesn’t appear to be reciprocated.

Confirming that the club did hold an interest in the 27-year-old, Barcelona sporting director Deco revealed there was never any burning desire to sign Rashford in January – instead merely seeing him as a potential option.

He said: ‘It’s true there was talk of Rashford – but we weren’t desperately looking for a player either.’

Rashford is yet to find his way back onto the scoresheet after enjoying his first two appearances in a Villa shirt – though he came close in their 1-1 draw with Ipswich, curling a free-kick onto the crossbar before the rebound was bundled in by Ollie Watkins.

The former United academy product is showing glimpses of his former self at Villa Park, but has nevertheless hinted that he sees his time under Unai Emery as little more than a stepping stone.

‘Obviously it’s only short term that I’m here but I want to make the most of my time here,’ he said during his welcome interview with the club.

‘The only way to do that is by using my attributes and skill sets to help the team.’
