Award-winning gospel artiste Selina Boateng has shed light on the unspoken challenges many Christian couples face in their marriages, particularly those involved in ministry.

In an interview with Onua FM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Boateng revealed that numerous Christian couples remain in unhappy marriages due to fear of societal judgment and stigma within the church.

She explained that these couples often feel compelled to maintain a perfect image despite enduring personal struggles.

“If people felt free to leave their marriages without backlash, divorce rates would skyrocket. The reality would be shocking,” she stated.

“Once you’re married, you can’t openly discuss your hardships. Even those who encouraged the marriage won’t be there to support you,” she added.

The Alpha and Omega singer emphasised that marital problems affect not only personal well-being but also spiritual growth and ministry effectiveness.

“A broken marriage impacts everything, your peace, your ministry, and your purpose, especially for gospel musicians,” she noted.

Boateng called for greater empathy within religious communities, pointing out that women who speak up about their marital issues are often doubted or blamed.

She further stated that many Christian leaders would admit, if they were honest, to marrying the wrong person.

“So much happens behind closed doors. If people spoke freely, you’d be stunned by how many pastors and gospel artistes regret their marital choices,” she revealed.

Reflecting on her own journey, Boateng admitted that her marriage has had its share of difficulties.

If given another chance, she noted, she will make different decisions.

She advised singles to be more discerning in their choices saying, “don’t rush into marriage because of pressure. Take your time and choose wisely.”
