Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the club blocked Kobbie Mainoo’s potential move from the club this summer.

The 19-year-old’s future at the club remains uncertain after a tough start to the season.

Mainoo, after featuring in United’s defeat against Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup game on Wednesday, demanded to leave the club.

Napoli and other European clubs expressed their interest in the English midfielder of Ghanaian descent, but the club has blocked his potential departure.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Red Devils’ home game against Burnley this weekend at Old Trafford, Amorim confirmed that he blocked Mainoo’s exit.

According to him, Mainoo must stay and fight for his place in the team.

“I want Kobbie to stay,” the Portuguese gaffer said.

“We need Kobbie, but he needs to fight for his place, and my position is not going to change,” he added.

Kobbie Mainoo was strongly linked to Chelsea in January, but the deal fell through.

Mainoo is already an established figure in the first-team setup, boasting an impressive 73 senior appearances for the Red Devils, during which he has contributed 7 goals and 3 assists.

His current contract binds him to the club until June 2027, with an option for an additional year, underscoring his long-term importance to the project.

His market value, a testament to his potential and performances, is currently estimated at €50 million.
