Manchester United have reached an agreement with Turkish giants, Trabzonspor, over a loan deal for goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

The move, however, will only go through if the Cameroonian shot-stopper gives his approval in the coming days.

Onana, 29, joined United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 for £47 million but has endured a turbulent spell at Old Trafford. Initially signed as Erik ten Hag’s first-choice goalkeeper, the former Ajax star has struggled with consistency and has recently fallen down the pecking order under new boss Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils’ decision to sign Belgian goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, this summer for around £18 million added further pressure on Onana’s position.

Amorim has instead trusted Altay Bayındır in recent Premier League matches, leaving Onana restricted to just one appearance this season, a Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, in which he was heavily criticised for costly errors.

United fans have grown increasingly frustrated with the goalkeeper’s performances, with many urging the club to sanction his departure as soon as possible.

Reports from England and Turkey indicate that Trabzonspor moved swiftly once talks opened, with the Turkish transfer window still open until September 12.

Despite the agreement between the two clubs, Onana will have the final say.

If he accepts, the deal will allow him to relaunch his career in the Turkish Super Lig, where he would immediately be handed first-team responsibility.

Onana’s possible exit marks a dramatic turn for a player once tipped as the long-term successor to David de Gea.

From Champions League finals with Inter Milan to a rocky stint in Manchester, his Old Trafford future now hangs on his decision in the coming days.
