Cape Coast – Following the tragic stampede that occurred in Accra on Wednesday morning, November 12, 2025, during a national military recruitment exercise at the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, which resulted in six fatalities and 28 injuries, the Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have demanded a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution of those responsible for managing the exercise.
In a statement issued and signed by them, they emphasized that the military recruitment exercise managers had prior knowledge of the numbers involved and thus should have decentralized the process to prevent the tragedy.
Citing the Ghana Armed Force’s own statement, which indicates that preliminary reports suggest that inadequate crowd control and the overwhelming turnout contributed to the disaster.
Therefore, the Cadres conclude that a comprehensive investigation is necessary to illuminate the circumstances surrounding the incident, thereby informing the remedial measures required to prevent similar tragedies in future recruitment exercises.

Military Recruitment Stampede Heads Must Roll
The enlistment team knew the huge number of the recruits they were inviting for the recruitment screening exercise but they still decided to congregate them at one venue. Management could have decentralised the exercise by letting some potential recruits group at El – Wak and the remaining grouping at Accra Sports Stadium and do same in other regions.
The Gallant Cadres of NDC believes that the management in-charge of the screening exercise must be prosecuted. It is about time we value life.
Why do we do this to our fellow citizens, fellow Ghanaians. Nobody is more Ghanaian than the other and Ghana is not for the politicians.
Ghana is for Ghanaians. We should give equal opportunity to everybody. The system put in place by the NPP has really destroyed the country. Everything was for party members including appointment as Headmaster and Assistant Headmasters.
The devastating stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, has claimed the lives of six individuals, with 28 others injured and receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. Of the injured, five are in the Intensive Care Unit, while 12 remain in critical condition.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that the stampede occurred during the ongoing military recruitment exercise, which attracted thousands of eager applicants. The large crowd, coupled with intense jostling at the entry points, sparked a chaotic scene, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.
Security personnel had cordoned off the area, and the military has blocked all major roads leading to the stadium to maintain order and facilitate rescue operations. The recruitment exercise, initially slated to conclude on October 31, 2025, had been extended by one week due to technical challenges encountered on the recruitment portal.
In a statement, the GAF expressed regret over the incident, attributing the extension to technical difficulties experienced during the initial phase. Authorities are yet to provide additional comments on the stampede, but preliminary reports suggest that poor crowd control and the overwhelming turnout contributed to the disaster.
A thorough investigation is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident and inform measures to prevent similar tragedies in future recruitment exercises.
