A private Ghanaian citizen, Patrick Kwame Awoin, has announced his intention to stage a one-man peaceful demonstration in response to the acquisition agreement between Azumah Resources Ghana Limited and Engineers and Planners concerning the Black Volta Gold Project.

“I write to formally notify your esteemed office, pursuant to Article 21(1)(d) of the Constitution, 1992 of the Republic of Ghana, of the intention of Kwame Awoin, a Ghanaian citizen and native of Esiama in the Nzema district of the Western North Region, to embark on a peaceful one-man demonstration,” the letter read.

Dated July 15, 2025, and addressed to the Office of the President and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Awoin, the native of the Upper West Region outlined his reasons, stating that several foreign companies in the mining sector have long exploited the region without initiating any developmental projects to benefit the locals.

He believes, however, that the acquisition by Engineers and Planners (E&P), a Ghanaian-owned company will be beneficial to both the country and the region by bringing real development and creating jobs for the local population.

Awoin added that his demonstration aims to highlight the need for government approval of the takeover, in support of Engineers and Planners.

“The demonstration seeks to draw national attention to the critical importance of sanctioning the proposed acquisition of Azumah Resources Ghana Limited by Engineers and Planners (E&P). As a native of a region historically burdened by decades of mining activities by expatriate firms, with little to no developmental or employment benefits for local communities, Awoin considers the ongoing discussions and near-conclusion of this deal to be an issue of national importance and urgency,” portions of his statement read.

It added; “Further, the demonstration serves as a call to all well-meaning Ghanaians, media houses, analysts, and public commentators, including notable voices such as Bright Simons of IMANI Center for Policy & Education, to uphold the tenets of responsible and patriotic discourse. Commentary or reportage that casts unjustified aspersions on Mr. Ibrahim Mahama of E&P or seeks to derail this potential game- changing acquisition undermines not only indigenous enterprise but the economic prospects of Ghana as a whole.”

The demonstration, which Awoin has scheduled for Monday, August 4, 2025, will begin at the main Mallam Junction overpass and conclude with the presentation of his petition to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Office of the President at Jubilee House.
