A man took to Instagram to share how his father managed to prevent a house agent from extorting money from a young couple who were desperate for a place to rent.

He revealed in his post how a man had approached his father, claiming to have a sister who wanted to rent one of the man’s apartments, and even offered to pay for it on the spot after he was given the price of rent.

His father, suspecting foul play, insisted that the man bring his “sister” first before he would collect any payment.

On meeting the young lady and her fiancé, who came with her, he found out that the couple were getting married in a month’s time and had been desperately looking for a place to build their new home.

The lady also revealed that instead of ₦600K that he had told the agent, the lady had been told to pay ₦950K, meaning she had to pay an additional #350K, which the agent intended to keep for himself.

The man’s father was fortunately able to meet with the lady before she paid any money, saving her from extortion at the hands of the agent.

He wrote:

“So, my dad had a 2-bedroom flat for rent at #600K. A guy came to check it out, claiming it was for his sister. He wanted to pay, but dad insisted on meeting the sister first.

The next day, the “sister” shows up with her fiancé, saying they’re getting married next month and need the place urgently. Dad asked how much they were told to pay in total, and they said #950K. Dad just laughed, knowing the guy was an agent. He told them to pay #350K as his wedding gift to them.

They left happy.

Now the agent came back this morning, fuming and shouting at my dad for “ruining his business”. Baba just sat there laughing.

Not every hustle deserves protection, some deserve disruption.”

The post has sparked heated opinions from netizens who were quick to condemn the actions of house agents. They also praised his father for his quick thinking and kind action.
