An affluent inner-city Melbourne suburb has been rocked by the death of a man found lying in a driveway moments after multiple gunshots were heard.
Emergency services were called to a home in Linden Avenue, Ivanhoe, about 6pm on Tuesday, after a dog walker spotted the body outside a block of townhouses.
The man, who is yet to be formally identified, couldn’t be revived. His cause of death is yet to be determined and is being treated as suspicious.
Neighbour Martyn Wild said he and his wife woke to gunshots about 5am.
‘We heard two very rapid gunshots fired in quick succession one after the other and then a car drive up the road at speed’, he told the Herald Sun.
The couple were later stunned to learn a body had been found.
‘What struck me was the body had been lying there for 12 hours and nobody had spotted it – it’s not as if it is a big front garden,’ Mr Wild told the publication.
A resident from a neighbouring block of units said he saw a body in the front garden about 6.15pm, with word quickly spreading through the apartments.

Photos show the leafy street cordoned off as detectives and forensic officers examined the crime scene.
A SES tent was erected near where the man’s body was found.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
