NDC bigwig, Malik Basintale, visited the residence of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, following the musician’s passing on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

According to Basintale, who has joined a tall list of prominent people in society to mourn with Daddy Lumba’s family members, he knew the late singer even before joining politics.

He said that his first meeting with Daddy Lumba occurred during a 2007 campaign rally in Tamale, which was attended by former President John Agyekum Kufuor and then-candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In an Instagram post, he recalled how he aspired to become a police dispatch rider; hence, he left home to witness the presidential motorcade after it visited the palace of the King of Dagbon.

His curiosity and determination eventually led him to the Tamale Jubilee Park, where he encountered Daddy Lumba and his crew preparing to perform a campaign song composed for Nana Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2008 general elections.

He noted that Daddy Lumba even exchanged contacts with him after their encounter, and the two kept in touch for years until he lost his mobile phone in 2011, which severed their communication.

Despite the interruption, he remained a loyal admirer of Lumba’s music and the social influence he wielded through his artistry.
