The Malian national team have landed in Accra ahead of Monday night’s crunch 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Eagles touched down at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday, September 7, 2025, greeted by a small contingent of Malian supporters and airport staff as they made their way to their team bus.

Their arrival sets the stage for what promises to be a decisive Group I encounter.

Ghana currently sit top of the table with 16 points from seven matches, but Mali, who are four points adrift, remain firmly in the hunt for a top-two finish that would keep their World Cup hopes alive.

The Black Stars will be under pressure to respond after their frustrating 1-1 draw against Chad in N’Djamena on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Jordan Ayew’s early goal had given Ghana control of that contest, but profligacy from Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus proved costly, as Chad struck an 89th-minute equaliser to deny Otto Addo’s men maximum points.

That late setback has tightened the group standings. Ghana’s advantage over Madagascar is now just three points, while Mali’s slim but real chance of qualification hinges on upsetting the leaders in Accra.

For Mali, arriving a full day before the clash offers them crucial time to acclimatise and sharpen their focus for the high-stakes fixture. Their squad, led by experienced campaigners and rising stars, will look to exploit any nerves in the Ghanaian camp.

With both sides aware that the margins are razor-thin, the clash at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8, 2025, promises drama, intensity, and potentially a defining twist in the race for the 2026 World Cup.
