Mali head coach, Tom Saintfiet is confident of victory ahead of his team’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Black Starts of Ghana.

The Black Stars on Monday, September 8, 2025, will host the Eagles of Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium under the floodlights on matchday 8 of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking at the pre-match conference on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, Tom Saintfiet said the game against the Black Stars is very winnable.

He stressed that the Black Stars are a worthy opponent and the game will be difficult but they are in Ghana to win and make history by qualifying to the 2026 FIFA World.

“We are here to win and to make history. Our ambition is to go to the World Cup and that is what we are going to do.”

“If we lose i will be very sad regardless of how good we play because the objective is not the just play well but to win the game. I will be proud of my boys but will still be sad if we lose,” Tom Saintfiet said.

Mali lost the first leg 2-1 under former coach Eric Chelle on June 6, 2024, at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako.
