Gospel musician and preacher Sonnie Badu has congratulated MP-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, John Setor Dumelo, after the latter secured a landslide victory in the 2024 general election.

In a social media post, Sonnie Badu urged the MP-elect to adhere to all the promises he made to his constituents when seeking power.

“Make sure you fulfill all your promises and make your mum proud. She’s smiling down on you,” he said.

Sonnie Badu also drew John Dumelo‘s attention to an earlier prophecy he gave him 10 years ago.

“Dear @johndumelo1, remember what I told you 10 years ago in Australia; it will surely come to pass,” he added.

Meanwhile, some netizens have taken to social media to express their joy for John Dumelo.

    Background

Actor-turned-politician John Setor Dumelo contested on the ticket of the NDC and won a landslide victory over Lydia Seyram Alhassan in Ayawaso West Wuogon.

Dumelo’s victory sees him unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, paving the way for him to represent the constituency in the 9th Parliament.

This marks the MP-elect’s second time contesting for the seat in the constituency after a defeated battle with Lydia Seyram Alhassan in 2020.

In the final results, John Dumelo garnered 47,560 votes, while Lydia Alhassan secured 39,214 votes. The actor’s win is seen as a major political shift in Ayawaso West, which is considered to be a stronghold of the NPP.
