A major search has been launched after a Gold Coast boater failed to return home on Thursday night.
It’s been reported the yet unidentified man took his boat out on from the Runaway Bay Marina on Thursday but failed to return on time.
Queensland Police were called about 7pm after the fisherman and his black half-cabin Pleasure Craft were reported overdue from returning to port.
Water Police said searches of the surrounding areas and seaways as well as attempts to make contact with the vessel over the radio continued into the night.
A boat fitting the description of missing vessel and with no one on board was found 25 nautical miles southeast of the seaway with about 2am on Friday.
‘A search is underway for a man after a vessel he was believed to be on was located unoccupied off the coast of the Gold Coast,’ a police spokesperson said.
Emergency services confirmed at least three search and rescue helicopters have also been deployed to find the missing man.
The search, which involves the water police, police helicopter and the Volunteer Coast Guard, is ongoing.
