Mussa Dankwah is the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics

The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has cautioned that any endorsement by President John Dramani Mahama in the race to select the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2028 elections could have unpredictable effects on the party.

Speaking on Citi FM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Dankwah said while a presidential endorsement carries significant weight, it could either strengthen party unity or create deep divisions among supporters.

“It could have consequences both plus and negatives, and I think we shouldn’t think that we can hoodwink any group of people to go a certain direction. It could have an impact that could be negative or positive,” he stated.

NDC grassroots condemn Mussa Dankwah over ‘divisive’ succession polls

“He noted that some members would appreciate Mahama’s backing, but others might see it as divisive. There are those who will be happy that he has given an endorsement to somebody and there are those who will feel that the party will be torn apart if he does that,” he indicated.

Mussa Dankwah cited Kenya’s political experience as a cautionary tale.

“Remember in Kenya, Kenyatta went against Ruto. He went to endorse a candidate, but the party didn’t go with him let that be a lesson,” he cautioned.

His comments come in the wake of a new Global InfoAnalytics poll, which places Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu as the frontrunner to lead the NDC into the 2028 elections with 30 percent support.

He is followed by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia with 24 percent, and Finance Minister Ato Forson with 18 percent.

Other potential contenders, including Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, polled lower.

The poll also revealed that Haruna Iddrisu’s popularity rises to 48 percent in key swing regions.

However, without him in the race, support becomes closely divided between Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson, suggesting a potentially competitive and divisive primary if not carefully managed.
