The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his decision to appoint women as heads of key security institutions in Ghana.

The organization described the move as a bold and progressive step toward gender equality and the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda.

FOSDA highlighted the appointment of DDGP 3 Patience Baffoe-Bonnie as Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service and DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong as Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to inclusive security governance.

“These appointments reflect the government’s dedication to creating opportunities for women in security leadership and contribute significantly to the UN Security Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security,” the organization stated.

Congratulating the newly appointed security heads, FOSDA emphasized their wealth of expertise, noting that “Baffoe-Bonnie, a corrections and human rights advocate, previously spearheaded reforms in prison health systems, while Ntow-Sapong has distinguished herself in fire safety and operational efficiency.”

FOSDA urged the government to sustain this progress by ensuring gender-responsive budgeting and maintaining accountability mechanisms to promote gender parity in security services.

“We encourage the President John Mahama-led government to sustain these gains and appoint more women into leadership positions in the Security Services,” said Theodora W. Anti, Executive Director of FOSDA.
