Popular Ghanaian media personality and DJ, Ohemaa Woyeje, has praised President Mahama’s ban on first-class travel for government appointees.

In an interview on United Showbiz on February 15, 2025, Ohemaa Woyeje said while foreigners often perceive Ghanaians as wealthy because of the country’s expensive lifestyle, the issue lies in how the leaders manage the resources.

“If our leaders are introducing initiatives that can help us live within our means, it’s a commendable idea, and we should support it. When things improve, we can celebrate the progress. I therefore agree with the president’s decision.

“Foreigners think Ghanaians have money because we live very expensive lives. Ghana has money, but the way our leaders utilize the money makes it feel like there’s no money in Ghana. If the cost of living is reduced and money is only spent on necessary things, the pressure on the country will ease,” she said.

She also highlighted key areas that could help the country generate more income, urging leaders to focus on them.

“The cost of goods in Ghana is high, but we can focus on initiatives like ‘One District, One Factory,’ planting foods, and creating more job opportunities. These areas could help the country generate revenue, and the government should pay more attention to them. There are many issues to address.”

Ohemaa Woyeje added that the current president has recognized the country’s significant challenges, and with the new president in power, there is a huge task ahead.

“The president was sworn in on January 7 and has already begun his appointments and other duties. He has led Ghana before and is now president again after several years. He has assessed the economy and recognized the nation’s debt.

“The finance ministry, along with the government, has appealed to international countries like China, with whom Ghana owes, to work out a plan for the next five years to manage the debt,” she explained.
