Former President John Dramani Mahama has called for urgent reforms to eliminate corruption within the Ghana Police Service, stressing that transparency and accountability must be prioritized.

Speaking at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 14, during the swearing-in of Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mahama highlighted how corruption erodes public trust and weakens the justice system.

“Mr. IGP, your duty extends beyond maintaining law and order; it also involves eliminating corruption from the service,” he stated.

He warned that unethical practices, including bribery and abuse of power, undermine the credibility of law enforcement and make it difficult to uphold justice.

To address these concerns, Mahama urged IGP Yohuno to take decisive action against corruption at all levels and ensure strict accountability measures are enforced.

“It is imperative that officers at all ranks are held to the highest ethical standards, and any form of malpractice must be swiftly and decisively addressed,” he emphasized.

He expressed confidence that Yohuno’s leadership would usher in much-needed reforms, restoring public confidence in the police service.
